1. When playing escape velocity it is a good idea to pick your side in the very beginning. Whether you want to help the rebels or you want to help the confeds. personally I normally help the rebels fight the confeds for one simple reason: the rebels will not hate you if you attack an independent ship in one of their systems while the confederates will. 2. How to beat the aliens. With the rebels, be sure you get the tractor beam before you attempt this mission. Once you have the tractor beam and the mission to destroy the aliens, load up on either proton or laser technology. Then jump in to the system where the aliens are located. (I'm not gonna give that away. :)) First, attack the fighters. Get them in the tractor beam, this pretty much freezes them. Once in the tractor beam, shoot them with your primaries. Once all the fighters are destroyed, go after the cruiser. Do NOT let it hit you with the beam! Circle around it and shoot it with your primaries and any secondaries if you have them, all the while avoiding seeker drones. Keep doing this and the cruiser will be destroyed. With the confeds, do the same, except the tractor beam wont' work. Simply go after the cruiser. When the alien fighters come around, dodge them, then go after the cruiser again. Repeat until cruiser is destroyed.
